Just spending Sunday listening to A$AP Rocky’s new record LONG.LIVE.A$AP which is pretty damn good. Album closer, ‘Angels’ is the track that struck me most. Perhaps because of it’s Imogen Heap ‘Headlock’ sample or maybe it because it made this white boy feel gansta’ for about 5 minutes.

Yeh, yeh, yeh, I know that she’s the witch demon behind ‘Call Me Maybe’ but Carly Rae Jepson’s ‘This Kiss’ sounds like it could have been lifted right out of Robyn’s songbook and has an amazing chorus that will stay in your head (in a pleasant way) for hours.

Radio Rip of AlunaGeorge’s new track ‘Diver’ was played on BBC1 to announce their much-anticipated debut full-length, Body Music, which is coming out in June on Island Records.

It’s no 212 (what is?) but Fresh Prince’s uber cool cousin continues to cement her reputation as just about the coolest new artist on the planet, with her new track BBD (or “Bad Bitches Do it” that features production from Apple Juice Kid and Sup Doodle.
What is it with good math rock bands? Why can’t they stay together for more than one or two decent albums? First we had Meet Me In St Louis, then Blakfish and then yesterday Tubelord called it day.
It’s a shame because the bands debut album, Our New American Friends, was truly great. A perfect mix of pop punk with just the right amount of mathy time signatures thrown in to keep things interesting.
So this is in tribute to that record (don’t bother with the follow up, it isn’t great) here’s [edit] radio’s favourite Tubelord track, Propeller.

Over the past few months their have been rumours afoot that Biffy Clyro’s new album would sound like their first few records. It would be a bold step for a once exciting band to risk their new commercial success and make a genuinely brave record. Now the new record is a double album so it may well have some gems hidden away on it, but if Black Chandelier is anything to go by this is the Biffy Clyro of Puzzle/Only Revolutions rather than Blackened Sky/Vertigo of Bliss.
Despite a promising start, which harkens back to “Liberate the illiterate / a mong among mingers,” the song eschews the irregular time signatures, experiments with structure and the odd bit of screaming for pure stadium rock. It’s by no means a bad thing; ‘The Bif’ are more than a bit handy at crafting hard rocking singalong treats. If thats what you’re after from music, then fine, but the youngster in me still craves the Biffy of a decade ago.

Although her album was seriously flawed, the conceptual premise of Lizzy Grant’s pop alter ego, Lana Del Rey is still intoxicating. She represent a subversion of traditional American values, updating them for a generation that has nothing better to do than fawn over cool images on Tumblr. On Cola, she sexualises the worlds favourite drink so blatantly that it works.
